Christopher Kypros 
Pianist

American pianist Christopher Kypros has enjoyed a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, musical director and composer. Rooted in rigorous classical training, his artistry is further enriched by extensive experience in theatre, film and choral music. His performances are distinguished by interpretative maturity, versatility and a deeply personal connection with his audiences.

Kypros received his Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in New York City in 1973, where he studied with the distinguished pianist and pedagogue Sascha Gorodnitzki. He completed his undergraduate studies at Old Dominion University.

Kypros has appeared as guest soloist with the Virginia Symphony and the Jacksonville Symphony, with Skitch Henderson conducting, as well as with the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra and regional college orchestras. As a chamber musician, he has performed with the Feldman String Quartet, the LeHigh String Quartet and the Norfolk Chamber Consort. Among his solo appearances is a concert at The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

For the past twenty years, Kypros has presented intimate piano concerts featuring works from a wide range of musical periods, complemented by spoken reflections that provide context and create a personal connection between the music and the audience. These concerts have been warmly received for the maturity and depth of his interpretations, as well as for the personal and heartfelt insights he shares with his listeners.

From 1977 to 1982, Kypros was a member of the piano faculty at the College of William and Mary. He subsequently joined the faculty of Norfolk Academy, where he taught music from elementary through high school for nineteen years. He later became Music Director at Saint Patrick Catholic School in Norfolk, Virginia, a position he held until spring 2026.

Kypros has extensive experience in musical theatre and has served as musical director for more than sixty productions. He also performs original live piano accompaniments for silent film classics, combining musical imagination with an immediate response to the drama and action on screen.

His work as a performer extends beyond the concert platform. Kypros has appeared as an actor in numerous theatre productions and on television for New Dominion Pictures.

​

As a composer, his works include Liturgy of Peace, Liturgy of Hope, Liturgy of Light and Liturgy of Love. He has received honours for his contributions to the music of the Greek Orthodox Church. He has also conducted choral workshops and performances across the United States.

​

Kypros is also an author. His children’s book, Lullaby for Alana, together with its accompanying recorded score, is available online and through major booksellers.

​
