Maurizio Lomartire
Conductor, Composer, Violist
Born in Taranto Maurizio Lomartire studied music in his hometown. He continued studying the viola with W. Janssen in Cremona where he attended the School of Musical Paleography and Philology. In 1987 he obtained doctorate in musicology and in 1988 and a diploma in viola at the Conservatorio "G. Rossini" in Pesaro, under the guide of K. Stochmialek. He attended courses of string quartet with P. Farulli at the School of Fiesole and the 'Accademia Chigiana.
In 1989 he won the competitions of the Teatro Regio di Torino and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. He began an intense solo and chamber activity and then dedicated himself to the study of orchestra conducting under the guidance of P. Bellugi, J. Kalmar and J. Panula, immediately gaining wide acceptance. Currently performing in concerts in Italy and abroad, working with major artists including P. Amoyal , V. Mariozzi, F. Maggio Ormezowski, L. Morales, R. Gintoli, E. Ceysson, G. Apap, L. Bacalov, the Virtuosi Italiani.
Since 1997 to 2008 he was Music Director of the Orchestra Magna Grecia. He was invited to conduct the orchestra of the “Incontri Europei” in Bergamo during the memorial events for Gianandrea Gavazzeni, where he performed the “Sonata da Casa” of the Maestro 54 years after its premiere.
He conducted the world premieres of works by L. Ferrero ("Two Cathedrals in the South"), of R. Saracino (Cantico delle creature), G. Tamborrino ("Epos in rock"), A. Garcia Abril (Italian premiere of "Nocturnos de la Antequeruela"), and Dario Marianelli - Academy Award 2007 - (first world performance and recording of "Il sogno di Marsia").
In 2000 he collaborated on the CD-ROM of the oratorio "La vita di Maria" by N. Rota. His CD with the Orchestra and Chorus della Magna Grecia was also released in the same year. He has conducted, among others, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, the State Symphony Orchestra "Klassica" in St. Petersburg, the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, and Orchestra del Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari.
At the professorial competition of the Italian conservatories he obtained the chair for viola at the "N. Piccinni" conservatory in Bari.
In addition, Maurizio Lomartire is active as a composer and has recently written an opera (“Etra's Tears”), which was performed by the Orchestra della Magna Grecia under the direction of Luigi Piovano and released on CD. He also composed the “Cantata Francisci” in honor of Pope Francesco.
A versatile musician, his musical interests range from rock (most recently he composed the Concerto for two pianos and orchestra on themes by Genesis) to jazz. In recent years he has been active as a jazz violinist. His CD “Side C” was released in 2014.
