Beijing Floboe
Flute & Oboe Duo
Beijing Floboe is an award-winning chamber duo based in Berlin, founded by flutist Jingyi Cao and oboist Boyi Ruan. Both are graduates of the Berlin University of the Arts and active as orchestral musicians: Jingyi Cao performs with the Berliner Symphoniker and the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, while Boyi Ruan appears regularly with The Norwegian Wind Ensemble and serves as an academist at the Staatskapelle Berlin. Together, they also hold principal positions in the Neues Kammerorchester Berlin.
The duo explores the rarely spotlighted but richly expressive combination of flute and oboe - two closely related instruments that unfold a refined and vibrant musical dialogue when brought together with precision and imagination. Their shared fascination with the chamber music of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach inspired the name "Floboe," a coined identity that reflects both their instrumentation and their artistic curiosity.
Beijing Floboe has drawn acclaim for its interpretive depth, technical finesse, and stylistic range. The ensemble’s performances have taken place at leading venues in Berlin and abroad. A recent highlight was their debut at the Berlin Philharmonie on 23 April 2025, in collaboration with guest pianist Lucia Lvjie Zhang, as part of the prestigious Lunch Concert Series - marking their arrival on one of Germany’s most prominent chamber music stages.
In 2022, they premiered Kuro Ougi, a contemporary work composed for them by Yuheng Chen and performed at the Berlin University of the Arts - underscoring their commitment to expanding the modern repertoire for flute and oboe.
